NANCY TOMCZAK
The spontaneous flow of color and added anatomical detail are combined for my watercolor paintings. Birds of the Northeast has been my concentration , pursuing a goal of capturing a life like quality. This goal then developed into a desire to show interactions between the birds and humans.
The expressiveness of hands are a fascination of mine that I incorporate frequently. Thus the human element of interaction.
Collages of my watercolor images pushes the bounderies of my compositions. Cutting apart various paintings of mine (deconstruction) , I then developed a technique of reassembling the pieces into a new composition (reconstruction). Layering adds another dimension.
Spirograph designs have evolved in my work leading to a less literal reference though suggesting the interplay of nature and math.
Membership of the Burlington City Arts clay studio allowed me to work in 3D , while focusing on themes of hands, birds, and geometry.
Originally from Buffalo I have spent most of my life in the snow belt areas of Western New York and the Finger Lakes region. A job relocation for my husband, James
brought us to Vermont in 2008 where we lived until 2024. Now residing in Rome NY where my plan is to continue an artistic pursuit .
